After a fire on Dec. 22, 2014, 12 West re-opened in mid April 2015, and experienced the busiest week they ever had.

“During our rebuilding phase, I think it created a lot of energy; people were talking about it.” said Ron Criswell, co-owner of the restaurant.

Although his past businesses were in and around Columbus, Criswell decided to start up a restaurant in downtown Delaware. “We just kind of fell in love with the space and the small town” he said.

12 West offers a Southwestern Fresh Mix, and the owners thought these flavors were missing from the Delaware scene. They opened July 4th, 2014.

Although not as beneficial for their 40-seat restaurant, Criswell feels that First Friday is great for downtown, “Especially the retail businesses. It just promotes the town.” he said.

Delaware consists mainly of independently owned businesses and Criswell finds it wonderful. “It has a very very friendly, family feel. Their neighbors’ success ensures their success,” he said.

12-West plans to stay here as long as it can. “It’s just a community that is going to survive” said Criswell.
